Not everyone is a good candidate for LASIK vision correction. The good news is that at Tidewater Eye Centers we offer excellent LASIK alternatives in Chesapeake to help more of our patients achieve clear vision. In addition to Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), we also perform Clear Lens Extraction (CLE).
Clear Lens Extraction (CLE)
CLE, also called lens replacement surgery or lifestyle lens surgery, is a great alternative for patients who have one or both of these conditions:
- A high degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness
- Presbyopia (the need for reading glasses)
This procedure is typically performed on patients who are over age 40.
How Clear Lens Extraction Works
During the procedure, our physicians carefully remove the eye’s natural lens and replace it with a multifocal intraocular lens. The procedure is very similar to cataract surgery and typically takes about 15 minutes to perform. The replacement intraocular lens is designed to restore the ability to focus vision at all distances. This can reduce or eliminate your need for reading glasses or bifocals – greatly enhancing your quality of life.
The new lens will not be visible to other people and you should not feel it in your eye.
Side Effects of Clear Lens Extraction
For several weeks after surgery, as you heal you may experience vision disturbances such as halos, glare and blurriness. Your eyes may also feel scratchy. These are typically temporary side effects.
In very rare cases patients may experience retinal detachment or epithelium cell loss.
Financing for Clear Lens Extraction in Chesapeake
Insurance may not cover the cost of CLE if the procedure is done as an elective surgery. At Tidewater Eye Centers we offer excellent financing options for Clear Lens Extraction to make attaining clear vision affordable.
We are committed to providing our community with a high standard of ocular care and patient service. CLE using multifocal lenses is just one example of our dedication to the optimal ocular health of our patients. Patients from Virginia, North Carolina, Washington D.C. and all over the mid-Atlantic region trust our doctors to treat their eyes with delicacy and the greatest of care.
If you are tired of wearing glasses, bifocals or contacts and are not a good candidate for LASIK, contact us today to schedule a consultation to find out if CLE is right for you.
