Great advances have been made in laser vision correction with Intralase and wavefront guided LASIK treatments.  However, for some patients that are not candidates for laser treatment, glasses or contacts are needed.  Advances in glasses and contacts have not kept pace with improvements in technology. Recently, several companies have made prototypes of adaptive focus glasses.  This new technology allows the corrective power of the glasses to change automatically based on eye movements.  The glasses described in these articles are an early prototype and are expensive.   I certainly would not endorse rushing to buy a pair at this point.  However, technological improvements will likely lead to improved glasses to serve patients who are not candidates for laser vision correction.
