Laser Cataract Surgery: LENSAR® Laser System
At Tidewater Eye Centers, we have invested in the LENSAR® Laser System for laser cataract surgery. This process uses a femtosecond laser specifically designed for refractive cataract surgery, making the procedure more precise and ultimately improving vision outcomes. The laser automates the typical manual steps in cataract surgery, allowing your doctor to guide the laser with superior imaging capabilities.
How LENSAR Works
Using laser technology similar to one used in LASIK vision correction, the LENSAR femtosecond laser is used to create a precise corneal incision, made at the optimal location and depth for your unique eye. The same laser is used to create an opening in the capsular bag that holds the cloudy lens as well as gently breaks up the lens so it can be efficiently removed.
Every step in the LENSAR process is backed by Augmented Reality™ advanced imaging system technology. This allows your doctor to have access to a high-resolution, 3D view of every detail of your eye so every step in your treatment plan is completely customized.
The pre-determined intraocular lens (IOL) is expertly and accurately placed through the incision.
Benefits of the LENSAR Laser System
- Precise, accurate cataract removal
- Efficient fragmenting of the cataract
- Reduced need for ultrasonic energy to remove the lens
- Quicker procedure time
- Accurate placement of your replacement lens
- Possible reduction of post-surgery complications
- Possibly better vision outcomes
